First Artwalk of Summer Was a Great Evening

artwalk5The evening of Thursday, June 13th turned out to be a very pleasant one in Mill Creek Town Center. The sun was out; it was a balmy 67 degrees. Lots of people strolled Main Street visiting the 23 merchants who hosted the artists. There was a wide variety of media offered including:  oils, watercolors, photography, soft sculpture, woodworking & jewelry.artwalk4

In addition to taking in the displays, many enjoyed shopping, eating ice cream, having a sip of wine or eating at one the many outdoor dining locations. Music fill the air from several venues. Do tell.

Sun & Watch Company

photoOh, my. So impressed. Was looking for a new watch, perhaps. A Toywatch, maybe. I went to the main website & checked for retailers; lo & behold, Mill Creek Sports came up. Yay! Love that it’s in my neighborhood. Maple Leaf Square 15704 Mill Creek Blvd. Mill Creek, WA 98012. No driving to Bellevue or Seattle. Do tell.

So, I go over there & was informed that, yes, they did in fact USED to carry watches &  sunglasses in that location, but the inventory had grown so much that they needed to open a separate store just kitty corner across the parking lot: Sun & Watch Co. How had I missed it; it’s sitting right there. “When did it open?” I ask. “Last Fall,” they said.

Hmm, so I go over there & what a great store! You do not need to shop at the mall or kiosk for sunglasses or a watch again. They have a huge selection. ( Just a few of the watch lines: Tag Heuer, Gucci, Disney, Tissot, Fossil, Tommy Bahama, Michael Kors, Victorinox Swiss Army, Skagen – on and on ) They were friendly, helpful. I wound up getting a different watch than I’d been thinking of, but found a great one by Nixon. Reasonable price. They sized it for me in minutes while we chatted.

Visit Sun & Watch Company The site needs a little work; it’s not complete, but you can get an idea of some the products they carry & see pictures of the store. You can create a wish list & order some products. My recommendation: visit in person for full effect.

First Art Walk of the Summer This Thursday

The first Second Thursday Art Walk presented by the Mill Creek Town Center Business Association & the City of Mill Creek takes place this week on June 13th 5-8 PM. Keeping an eye on the weather report for Thursday. Would prefer it to be clear, sunny & 65° or so. As of this writing it is looking a little cool & possibly damp. But no matter. If we Northwesterners waited for it to be perfect all the time we wouldn’t do anything, right? And this is just too much fun. Do tell.

23 merchants in the Mill Creek Town Center will be hosting artists in their businesses. It is a wonderful chance to get to know the local merchants as well as meet a variety of artists & view their work. See map & list of participating merchants & artists below. And you don’t have to memorize it! Maps are/will be available at Mill Creek Town Center merchants & the information booth.

As you can see there will be photography, painting in a variety of media, jewelry & recycled denim framed wall art. But wait! Did I mention there will be Music? @ Spotted Cow – Shannon Nalani & Friends with “soulful acoustic indie jazzie pop mix” @De Vine Wines – The Brad Buck Duo enjoy “Jazz guitar- jazz & Brazilian standards”  @Boston’s Restaurant – Theo Obrastoff  listen to “songs that express faith in God & love for family” @ Blazing Onion – Jerry Wirkkala & Friends swing & sway to “Nuevo Flamenco/World Beat with a hint of Blues”.  See you there!

Relay For Life Mill Creek 2013

rfl3_RGBThe Relay For Life Mill Creek is only 11 days away. June 1st at 12 noon, the event will open with a ceremony at McCollum Park.

At Relay For Life events, communities across the globe come together to honor cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost & fight back against a disease that has already taken too much. The funds raised truly make a difference in the fight against cancer – just ask one of the nearly 14 million cancer survivors who will celebrate another birthday this year!

Relay teams camp out overnight & take turns walking or running around a track or path at a local high school, park or fairground. For Mill Creek the location is McCollum Park at 600 128th St SE, Mill Creek WA 98012. Relay events may last up to 24 hours in length, but the Mill Creek Relay will open at 12 Noon on June 1st & close at 8AM on Sunday June 2nd. Because cancer never sleeps, each team is asked to have at least one participant on the track at all times.

By the numbers: as of this writing & according to their official website, there are 27 teams & 202 participants registered & $22,808.83 has been raised. Much more can be done even with the short time left. There are still ways to be involved:

  • Survivor’s are honored throughout the event starting with kicking off the event with The Survivor Lap & then a welcome reception. There is no charge to register for Survivor’s & we are looking to honor as many Survivor’s in the Greater Mill Creek Area as we can.
  • Participate in the event day of as an individual
  • Form or join a team to “relay” the track for the entire event
  • Donate directly to the event
  • Purchase & dedicate a luminaria bag to be lit during the event to remember & honor a friend or loved one.

For all the information you need including links to donate, register, form a team, schedule of events, maps & more, visit:
