Due to the snow & icy weather conditions in Mill Creek The 1st Annual Relay for Life in Mill Creek information night was rescheduled from January 18 to January 26th. It will be held from 7-8PM at Merrill Gardens located in Mill Creek at 14905 Bothell-Everett Hwy, Mill Creek 98012.
Everyone is welcome! Come to learn about this great event and all the different ways you can support and participate. Do Tell.
Woke up Sunday morning to falling snow. It is always so pretty in Mill Creek with the variety of trees covered in snow. Went out on the porch to smell the fresh crisp cold air. I am always amazed at the silence the snow brings.
I am guessing there was an accumulation of about 4-5 inches at this point, and it was the really good packable stuff for snow-men, snow-women and snow-ball fights.
Later in the day, kids of all ages drove & walked to some of the better known hills on the golf course, i.e. holes #14 & #15, to slip and slide. The drawback? The walk back up the hill to do it all over again. Cars lined Village Green Drive at an access point to the slopes, er. . . I mean, golf course.
A festive atmosphere prevailed with colorful coats, hats, sleds popping out against the white. Parents stood with coffee mugs watching the fun; some joined in on the sleds & saucers. Children laughed & squealed. Heard one story, I did not witness myself, that a “Grandma” riding with the grandchild took a “jump” they did not see coming, caught some big air and flipped over to the delight of, I am guessing “almost” everyone. Do tell.

A new American Cancer Society Relay for Life event is being organized to be held in Mill Creek in June 2012.
Relay for Life is an opportunity for everyone in our community to participate in the fight against cancer. An Information Night is being held on Wednesday January 18th from 7:00-8:00 PM at Merrill Gardens in Mill Creek located at 14905 Bothell-Everett Hwy. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come learn more about The American Cancer Society and the Relay of Life Event.
Relay for Life is American Cancer Society’s signature event. Teams of people camp out at a local park or high school and take turns walking around the track throughout the overnight event.
A core group of community leaders – Mayor Mike Todd has stepped up to be Event Chair – has begun the process of planning, but many more volunteers are needed to help with publicity, team recruitment, team registration, entertainment, food and hospitality, logistics and sponsorship.
Community Relations Manager Jennifer Holocker says, “We hope to have 40 or more planning committee members, at least 35 fundraising teams, touch more than 50 cancer survivors in our community, and raise more that $50,000 to help in the fight against cancer. I hope you will decide to be a part of this event however that fits into your schedule. There is a place for everyone at Relay. We can’t do everything, but everyone can do something.” Do tell.
Mike Todd adds, “ACS tells us that one out of every 100 Americans has participated in a Relay for Life Event, and that more than 4 million people will participate in one of the over 5,000 Relay events this year. Many people from our community have participated in the South Snohomish Count event formerly held in Lynnwood that is now in Edmonds. We think it is time to have a Relay in the Mill Creek community. We’re looking for community volunteers to help make this a special event for our area. I hope everyone will consider how they can participate, as a team member, donor or event volunteer.”
So please come to Merrill Gardens on January 18th from 7-8PM to learn more about ways in which you can help. If you are unable to be there, contact Jennifer Holocker directly at 425-322-1113 or Jennifer.holocker@cancer.org Contact Mike Todd directly at 425-337-0509 or millcreekmike@frontier.com
